Caught in Nowhere Preview

Learn all about this open world horror game and try out its pre-alpha

Platforms: PC

Here at Ichiplayer, we’ve had the pleasure of trying out one of the many quests that will be included in Caught in Nowhere. A game developed by the German based WASD Software. It blends a beautiful open world with all the spookiness and scares of a traditional horror game. The in-game music is composed and performed by the extremely talented Benjamin Hopkins, founder of City of Animals. Feel free to follow the official page of City of Animals on Instagram.

Caught in Nowhere, the title of the game with a background of a forest

It’s planned to be released on Steam by the end of 2021 at the latest. It will also be released on the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X a few months later.

In Caught in Nowhere, The player will be able to roam around freely in the world and discover all the hauntingly terrifying locations.

Similarly to Blooper team’s games such as Layers of Fear, Observer and Blair Witch, the game’s locations will feature some mind bending scares and twists, as well as many secrets to unfold. What makes Caught in Nowhere so special is the fact that the game will offer you complete freedom in tackling each location.

An Open World

Instead of opting for a traditional linear level design, the game will offer you a full open world to explore. Littered with quests that will each be set in a different location and fully available from the get go.

The game’s currently in a pre-alpha state that’s available to the public. The pre-alpha consists of about 20% of the full open world of the game when it fully releases on Steam and Next gen consoles. It had us playing one of the many quests that will be eventually included in the game, titled A Mother’s Lament.

A Mother’s Lament

The game is being developed using the unity engine and clear that it pushes the engine to its limits. When we booted up the Pre-Alpha (that you can try out for yourself here). We were first thrown into a dark forest. The moonlight was beautifully diffused through the trees giving the game’s starting area a shimmer that lighted up the environment. The player’s equipped with a flashlight that, similar to Resident Evil 2, will automatically turn off and on when needed.

The entrance of the big scary house is illuminated with two street lamps

In front of us was a cabin with a locked front door. Quickly looking around, we noticed that the key to the cabin was on the front porch near a rocking chair. The chair interrupted the quietness of the environment with its rhythmic creaking. We picked up the key and went into the cabin.

There was a letter on one of the nightstands that pointed us in the direction of a fallen tree nearby. As soon as we exited the cabin, A dark figure of a woman drenched in blood stood in the middle of the dirt road. She immediately disappeared but not before terrifying to death — we knew at that moment what kind of a game we were getting ourselves into.

We eventually made our way to the location of the quest, which is an abandoned big house. We also stumbled on our way there onto a climbable radio tower that, at its top, showed us the lay of the land.

Exploring the house and the gruesome story that took place in it was a treat. Creepy figures kept popping up, bloody walls and creepy dolls provided some of the horror elements of the game. We also had to solve a clever puzzle in order to open a door locked with a keypad. We soon reached the end credits and discovered the tragic story of the family that lived in the house.

Many More Features To Come

The full game will eventually include more scares, more puzzles and more locations. As well as the addition of notes and items to explore in order to learn more about the game’s world.
